Books of Hours
“Book of Hours” is a series of large-scale pastel drawings which deal with my experience of chronic insomnia: the physically restless quality of tossing and turning; and the mental busy-ness (Buddhism’s “monkey mind”) which keeps body and mind from much needed rest. Text and symbols reference the uniquely human capacity to tell stories -- at the core of what keeps us from sleep. Familiar images from our ever-present smart phones-- devices which overstimulate us while serving as imprints of our thoughts, preferences and affiliations – reference the disruptive influence of technology.
